Suzuki Continues its 4-Stroke Revolution with Two New Generation Portable Outboards
Suzuki has kicked-off the New Year by launching two new generation portable 4-stroke outboards – the all-new 8 and 9.9
horsepower models.
These new small engines come hot off the heels of the successful launch of Suzuki's new generation DF90/80/70 horsepower
outboards in August 2008. Like the DF90/80/70, these two new engines have been specifically designed with the European
boating market in mind, so it is fitting that they were launched to the world at the Düsseldorf boat show on January 17th
2009.
These new engines are the latest in a long line of lightweight, compact and fuel-efficient 4-stroke outboard motors from
Suzuki, which has completely redesigned the DF9.9, giving it an all-new 208cm³ OHC 4-stroke engine. The same engine is also
utilised in the DF8, which is a new addition to Suzuki's 4-stroke line up.
Suzuki's engineers have successfully designed a lighter, more compact DF8/9.9 that weighs 4.5kg less than the original DF9.9.
The lightweight and compact design of these new outboards gives them an excellent power to weight ratio as well as helping to
make them extremely fuel-efficient. Plus, both models come with an innovative and stylish multi-function tiller handle that
has the gear shift, throttle operation and throttle friction adjustment all within convenient and easy reach on the tiller handle
itself. This is particularly useful when the outboard is being used as a secondary engine on a small yacht or powerboat as all
the functions can be easily accomplished without the user having to remove their hand from the handle.
All of these features make these new outboards easy to use, easy to transport and perfect for powering small craft or as a
secondary engine on larger boats. This means that they will be a huge hit with boaters when they become available this
summer.
Mr Masuda, Director, Motorcycle Export and Marine for Suzuki International Europe presented these new engines to the
world and proudly said, "We are honoured to host the world launch of these two new engines in Germany. I must pay tribute
to the Suzuki engineers who have created two more technically advanced outboards to meet the needs of the market. I am sure
these outboards will be a huge success and help us achieve our goal of becoming the number one 4-stroke brand."

Suzuki Marine Is Launching The New DF100 EFI
Suzuki announces the launch of its new DF100 EFI four-stroke engine, available in Europe in the middle of 2008. The new motor packs a lot of innovative design features to reduce size and weight whilst maximising torque and power. The result is top class performance delivered with fuel efficiency from an engine based on Suzuki's proven in-line four cylinder powerhead (1,950cc).
"We have developed the new DF100 to meet market demand for an engine with excellent power to weight ratio, for a wide range of boats from pleasure to fishing boats, FRP boats to Ribs. Our European customers embrace the strong design and innovation Suzuki brings to the market, and we expect the DF100 to do very well here", comments Mr.Yamamoto, Head of European Marketing Group, Suzuki Motor Corporation.
Two stage gear reduction results in an over all gear ratio of 2.59. This powerful reduction allows the DF100 to turn a larger prop (both in diameter and pitch) for awesome acceleration and exciting top-end speed.
Suzuki's proven multi-point sequential electronic fuel injection is controlled with a powerful 32-bit onboard computer, constantly monitoring a variety of engine sensors for optimum performance in all conditions. The fuel injection system is matched with tuned, long-track intake manifold and race-proven 4-into-2-into-1 exhaust system. Long-track intake manifold contributes to improve performance and torque, especially to the mid-range. The exhaust system dramatically reduces drag on exiting exhaust flow for increased power and performance.
An offset drive shaft allows the engine's centre of gravity to shift forward, giving the DF100 not only better balance on the transom, but also a smaller profile. Suzuki's innovative powerhead design – with dual overhead cams, four-valves-per-cylinder and an oil bathed, self-adjusting chain-drive valve train positioned below the powerhead – allows a smaller cowling and optimum clearance within the motor.
A two-stage mixed camshaft drive system, incorporating both gears and a chain, means smaller diameter cam sprockets can be used, in turn allowing a reduction in valve angles and reducing the size of the cylinder head.
Turn the key and you can expect quick and reliable starts every time from the solid state electronic ignition. Quietness and reduced vibration at all throttle levels come courtesy of a large volume air silencer, tuned intake track and a specially designed crankshaft, crankcase, engine mount and cowling.
Like all Suzuki fuel-injected 4-stroke outboards, the DF100 meets the EURO emissions standards (EU directive 2003/44/EC) set by the European Parliament and the Council. The DF100 will be available from Suzuki distributors throughout Europe.

Union Chandlery Stores Opens New Shop In Athlone
Union Chandlery stores, based in Cork, already opened a new shop in Malahide Marina,Co.Dublin earlier this year.
In the weekend of the 5th of april. they are opening a 3th outlet in Glasson, Co.Athlone, to serve the demands and needs of all people who use the Inland Waterways.
We are all sure this will be more then a welcome addition to the midlands.
For this location, they work together with Michael Barrett and Lakeside Marina, who have a great service and repair centre in Glasson
